Dyslexia therapy is delivered by a Licensed Dyslexia Therapist or a Certified Academic Language Therapist. The instruction is prescriptive based on the needs of the individual and the pace is dependent on their mastery of skills. The instruction is explicit and systematic, with each session reviewing previously taught skills to use as a foundation for the introduction of new skills. Therapy provides ongoing and consistent opportunities for intensive practice to help students reach the mastery needed for accurate and fluent reading. It is recommended that therapy students attend sessions four days per week.
A Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) is a person certified by the Academic Language Therapy Association. Academic Language Therapists are trained to provide diagnostic, explicit, systematic Multisensory Structured Language intervention to build a high degree of accuracy, knowledge, and independence for students with written-language disorders, including dyslexia. Many students receive excellent dyslexia services at school, but benefit greatly from having one-on-one supplemental support. Students who are often unwilling to take a chance and expose their difficulties in front of their peers blossom in the individual setting. Based on baseline assessments we will design lessons that support your child's current progress, and give extended practice to help them reach their reading goals. It is recommended that students attend two to three sessions per week.
Certified Academic Language Therapists deliver instruction integrating visual, auditory, and motor processing with the explicit understanding of the structure of the English language. These results proven methods keep students engaged and provide a strong foundation for literacy success.
